Middle School is the ‘Discoverers’ phase where our students are building on the solid foundation already laid in our Primary School. At Coolum Beach Christian College our Middle School students are taught the necessary skills to build independence, drive, resilience and focus. Year 7 to Year 10 is a significant time for growth and development for this age group as they make the change from childhood to adolescence. Studies have shown that early adolescence mirrors early childhood in its complexity and importance to educational success and so we understand the important of creating an inspiring environment that is tailored to the specific needs of middle school students.
To ignite passion and continue that love of learning from the primary years, our dynamic and innovative Middle School curriculum has been created to integrate learning in a way that is meaningful and challenging. Aligned with the National Curriculum, the units have been specifically designed to connect the classroom to the world and create a balance between explicit teaching and innovative learning opportunities. We engage our College teens in their education by guiding them to become active participants in their own learning.
In our Middle School we offer the core subjects of English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities and Health/Physical Education as required by the National Australian framework. These foundational subjects provide opportunities for any future university studies that our students may want to pursue. We also offer a range of engaging electives including, Biology, Physics, Chemisty, Art, Information Technology, Home Economics, Christian Life Studies, Design and Technology, Music and Drama.
A unique feature of our Middle School is that we have a core teacher assigned to each year level to enhance our teacher and student relationships. Each core teacher is able to provide the security, connection and mentoring that students of this age require, while still exposing them to a variety of different teaching styles and personalities through the various subjects.
Life at CBCC in Middle School is exciting and dynamic; it is designed to help students develop their sense of identity, values and independence while pursuing academic excellence.
