At Coolum Beach Christian College, we wish for our students to have a love of their local community, their country and the world around them. To learn about other countries and explore their beautiful language is a wonderful opportunity for our students and one that can open many doors for their future.
To facilitate this, our students are taught French as a second language by our wonderful French specialist, Madame Martins. Currently our French lessons are only part of our primary curriculum although our Secondary students may have this option in the near future and can currently access an online tutor if they wish to pursue this language as part of their studies.
French is the second most widely learned foreign language after English. A knowledge of French is useful for communicating with the many French-speaking parts of the world (Canada, Switzerland, Belgium, North and Sub-Saharan Africa) and French is also the basis of over 50% of the English language. The famous French culture has shaped global movements in business and traditions in the arts, cinema, philosophy and cultural theory, as well as fashion, design, food and wine, and is therefore very useful for our students who have interests in these areas. Research shows that learning another language is fantastic for brain development and French is such a practical and useful language for our students to be learning and enjoying!
